How do I edit an image on Photoshop?

I've scanned in an image that I've sketched but I want to neaten it out and stuff, also add colour to it because it's a design for a t-shirt. I'm a beginner at photoshop so a little help would be great thanks =].How do I edit an image on Photoshop?
it depends on what version you have. i have CS2, so that's what I'll base my answer on. Sorry if that doesn't help . . . XD

Erase the obviously junky lines, (using the eraser tool), and if the image is too dark, or too light, you can adjust the levels. Go to Image (on the tool bar), the second option should be adjustments. Move your mouse over it, and a sub menu should appear. The first option is levels. Click that (or just ctl L). Above where it says 'output levels', there will be three triangles. The black one on the left makes the lines darker when you move it right, the white one makes the white whiter when you move it left. The grey one in the middle does either, depending on where you move it. I'm not sure what it looks like, so I don't know what else to tell you.

If you want to get the lines on a separate layer (so you can colour over them without going over the lines in colour, like a colouring book), first click on the channels tab in the layers box. Delete the channel that says 'red', then any other channels that are left EXCEPT yellow. Then click on the little circle button on the bottom of the layers box all the way at the left. That will select all your lines. Then, go to image (again, on the toolbar), and move your mouse over mode, then select 'greyscale'. Then repeat, only this time, select 'RBG color'. In the layers box, click the layers tab, and create a new layer. Either click the small triangle to the right of the different tabs, or press 'ctl shift n'. Then select the paint bucket tool (if it's not already on the tool bar to the side, hold the gradient button and it should pop up). Make sure the colour is set to black (or whatever colour you want the lines), then fill in the lines. Delete the previous background layer. I like to make another layer and fill this in white, just so I can see the lines better (remember to move it so the white layer is under the layer with the lines, so you can see them, just by dragging it beneath.) Make another new layer for the colour (over or under the lines, it doesn't matter). How do I edit an image on Photoshop?
