GIMP, Paint.net. And you can go to Download.com and see what they have. And also Photobucket has Image Customization Tools that you can add a load of effects and text on if it's just for fun and nothing major.





If you wanted to buy a program, I would HIGHLY suggest Paint Shop Pro 7. Better than Photoshop in my opinion. JPEG Artifact Removals, simplicity, and a buttload of effects that Photoshop 7 doesn't have.


It doesn't work with Macs or Vista I don't think and is $80. (Off eBay since they don't sell it anymore.)

Well, since everyone has already mentioned GIMP, I'll mention the other major free image manipulation software, Paint.NET.


It's only for Windows though, so if you run a Mac, you'll have to go with GIMP.

It's very debatable which is better, just look through the two and decide upon one. It doesn't really matter. Personally use both, simply because each has a couple of features the other doesn't.

You can actually download a 30 day trial of photoshop. Then after the thirty days, uninstall it and then install it again :)
Not similar but you could take a look at the google picasa its fast, free and easy to use.



Yes, GIMP is the freeware you need. Also, you can play with Paint.net for vector graphic too.
