What size is a typical graphic for a t-shirt using photoshop 7?

i'm designing a tshirt graphic and i want it to be as large as possible without being TOO large... i am going to send the file to a print shop and have the shirts made, but i just don't know what an appropriate size for a graphic would be?

i was thinking like a regular piece of paper size: 8.5 x 11... but i don't know.

any input? What size is a typical graphic for a t-shirt using photoshop 7?

There is no ';typical'; size. It can be a large a print as fits on one side of a shirt, laid flat.

So for your file, take a shirt, in the smallest size you anticipate being used, and lay it flat, smoothing out the wrinkles. That is the largest ';typical'; size you should make your graphic.

Even when airbrushing custom tee shirts, I could use an ordinary manilla file folder for a stencil on a shirt, and THAT unfolds to about 12 inches wide to eighteen inches tall. This fits most adult tee shirt sizes, except, perhaps the smallest.

Your Photoshop file could be that size for screen printing. The only limitation, other than that, would be the largest size screen your print shop has available. A real commercial operation should have screens much larger than that.
